She first made an appearance an actor in 1997, at age 13. The actress made her debut when she was 13 years old in 1997. Following her studies and working as a background actor in Canadian shows like Road to Avonlea, Harriet the Spy and Goosebumps and was offered speaking roles in the Canadian horror television series scared of the Dark? and Goosebumps. Both series were aired by YTV. There were commercials followed by appearances as a guest star in Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, and several Disney Channel original series (Mom's Afraid of a Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), when she was 19 and attending York University[12] which she studied Psychology and English. Vandervoort landed a lead role as Sadie Harrison in the CTV Teen drama Instant Star The show was on for four seasons. In 2006, Vandervoort starred in her first feature film titled The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode, and Isla Fisher. Vandervoort's TV career started with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. She then landed the part of Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin "Kara Kent", (the woman who will later become Supergirl) as part of The CW serial-drama Smallville. [2][3][5][8] She was a regular in season seven, she also appeared in"Bloodline," the "Bloodline" episode from season eight. She was back on Smallville to appear in two episodes of the season's final of the show, also her tenth. After The CW and Smallville, Vandervoort shot the follow-up to feature film Into the Blue titled Into the Blue 2: The Reef. The Jazzman was her next independent film.
