April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is one of only a handful of female beach volleyball players to have achieved this feat. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the next couple of days. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic Gold. The next opportunity she gets at age 39. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her family lived in the area along with her parents and sister. In addition to participating in a variety of sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. Along with the indoor game, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. In her final game she stood out. In her time at high school, she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter at the tennis court as per her bio at the college. In recognition of her work she was named an 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. The skills she showed in volleyball also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Ross and Klineman have been performing their roles in 2017. However, Ross was an important player in the world of beach volleyball before joining the duo. The American has been a major winner in competitions with different players. One of them is an icon of the volleyball world. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to the year 2013. She also coached Klineman and herself. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they won a gold medal. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team that took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, edged their opponents to claim the gold medal. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. After high school and several years prior to hitting the sand as a pro Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an collegiate. Ross's Trojans experience was remarkable. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year and an All-American. She was also an integral player to help the Trojans make their way to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss in her sophomore, however, she was able to achieve the All-American title. In her last two years in the Trojans team, she led them to a national title every year. In her own way she established herself in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the best female volleyball players at colleges across the nation. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross didn't get to see Ross become the highest beach volleyball level. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. But, she will always remember her deceased parent close and close.
